Having trouble picking just one picture to share with your Instagram followers? No need to choose! SND Dashboard now supports Instagram Carousels, allowing users to publish up to 10 photos, videos, or a combination of media types. Instagram Carousels offer users a more interactive experience, and generally get more engagement than other post types.

When creating an Instagram post, upload photos and videos in the order in which you’d like them to appear in your Carousel, then publish or schedule your content as usual. It’s that easy!

As with Twitter Carousels, this is a great way to tell a more complete story on social media. Whether your Instagram Carousel showcases your photographer’s best shots, the full 5-day forecast, or amazing UGC video from your fans, you’ll be able to share it all.

Be sure to pair your Instagram Carousel with a link via Newsin.bio to help your followers find the full story on your site!

Need guidance? We’re always here to help – info@socialnewsdesk.com.

As diversifying your newsroom’s social strategy becomes more and more important, Social News Desk now supports LinkedIn publishing in SND Dashboard. And that means publishing to your newsroom’s LinkedIn page couldn’t be easier!

LinkedIn has historically been thought of as a recruiting tool – or maybe something you only log in to when you’re looking for a job. But LinkedIn actually has 15x more content impressions than job ads. And 26% of adults in the US are on LinkedIn – that’s more than Twitter, Snapchat, TikTok or Reddit. So don’t sleep on the chance to send your news content to this audience that’s ready and waiting!

Here are the steps you’ll need to complete to get started with LinkedIn publishing in Social News Desk…

Identify Your Company Admins

LinkedIn page admin roles are a little different than what you may be used to. Super Admin access is needed to attach a page to Social News Desk. If you go to your company or newsroom’s page and don’t see “Admin tools” at the top right, you may need to request Super Admin access to the page.

Onboard Your Pages in Social News Desk

Once you’ve secured Super Admin access to your page, you can attach it to Social News Desk as a Manager user. Use the Add Account workflow in the Manage Properties section, and select LinkedIn as the social network. You may be prompted to log in to LinkedIn as you complete the onboarding process.

Assign Pages to Your Staff

Be sure to assign the newly-added LinkedIn Page to the people in your newsroom in order to allow them to publish content to the page. You might consider adding your human resources staff as users in Social News Desk so that they can easily publish job-related content to the page.

Start Publishing

You’re ready to get started! If you’re wondering what kind of content you should start publishing to LinkedIn, the same types of content that perform well elsewhere will do well here. Consider publishing stories related to business openings and closings, TV talent joining your market, things to do around town, breaking news, courts and crime, and COVID-19 news.

Similar to Twitter, hashtags are also an important part of LinkedIn posts to help other people find your content. Pick two or three hashtags that are relevant to your story, and include them in the post text.

If you syndicate content across multiple websites or news markets, you know the challenge of making sure each social post contains a link back to that publication’s own website. We’ve heard from people who have had to schedule each market separately – and that time adds up!

Great news – SND’s White Label Link Tumbling feature can cut publishing across multiple markets to a fraction of the time by automatically swapping out the root URL of each site with just a few clicks.

All we need to get started is a list of which website goes with which social account. You’ll set that up once in the Manage Properties section of SND Dashboard.

Once this simple setup is complete, you’re ready to go! Write a post that you want to send out to multiple social media accounts and add the link. It doesn’t matter which website you pull the link from – because SND will automatically tumble the root URL and replace it with the correct one before sending. That means each social post will have a link to its own website. You can even preview each link before your post is scheduled to ensure that the link is valid across all selected sites.

Want help getting started? Get in touch with your Client Success Manager or email us for more information.

There’s a lot that can go into creating that one, attention-grabbing social media post – and sometimes, we need a quick check behind us. Or maybe you’re the one calling the shots on stories before they publish.

In either case … we’ve got your back!

Enter post drafts– an easy way to save a social media post for further review. The post can then be scheduled or posted now.

Creating a post draft is super easy, and any SND user can do it! So, how does this work? Since lots of you have been asking for this … without further adieu, here’s what to know:

STEP 1: Create post and save as draft

Open the “Create a Post” window in SND. Craft your post by adding a photo/video or link, and a post message. When you’re done, click the “Publishing Options” button on the bottom left and select “Draft.” Click the blue “Save as Draft” button. Your post is now ready to be reviewed!

STEP 2: Post is ready for review

Once the post is saved, it will be added to the Drafts for Review stream. You’re probably familiar with the “+: Add to Dashboard” button on the left side of your screen. Click that, and then “Pending Drafts.” And select the social accounts you want to view posts for.

And, Voilà! You can see your post drafts (and who drafted each one).

STEP 3: Post is published, edited/scheduled, or deleted

We’re almost at the finish line: Now, it’s as easy as clicking the 3 dots on the post within the “Pending Drafts” stream. You can either: Post Now, Edit/Schedule, or Delete. That’s it!

So why might you need to use this?

  • Training others in the newsroom – it’s an easy way to spot-check “queued” posts.
  • Editors needing Managers to check behind them – every SND user has access to create these posts and review.
  • Approval needed for sensitive content – every now and then, we all have posts that require special review (we’ve been in your shoes with lawyered content).

And just like that, collaboration on social media posts just got a whole lot easier.

Twitter has just launched ‘Carousels’ for organic tweets and its available to all news publishers via Social News Desk’s leading-edge publishing tool: SND Dashboard. The new capability is representative of a philosophical shift at Twitter… as the company looks for ways to build out more engaging content-experiences for its users. And for newsrooms, this signals the ushering in of a more creative, more curated Twitter strategy. Here are a few ideas to get you started:

Breaking News

When a news story is fresh, you may only have a couple of photos from the scene. Add each photo to a Twitter Carousel and link each to the story on your website. Consider adding a Twitter Carousel item linking to your main website, and another to your news app to encourage followers to download and stay on top of updates.

Severe Weather Coverage

Add multiple carousel items to highlight links directly to the latest radar images, severe weather watches and warnings, and updates on storm damage. You can also include videos to showcase the storm’s path and a brief update from your meteorologists. Add a Twitter Carousel item to link directly to your app download page, so followers can stay ahead of the storm.

COVID-19 Updates

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, make sure you’re giving followers the complete story. A single Twitter Carousel can contain updates on case counts, the latest information on where to get tested, and reminders about quarantine procedures in case of positive test results.

Ongoing Investigative Coverage

Major news investigations often have several facets – as new details are uncovered, additional stories may be published. Adding multiple Twitter Carousel items gives your followers the background they need to understand all aspects of a complicated story.

Sports Roundups

Use Twitter Carousels to produce a mini-sportscast. Share highlight videos with links to individual stories from the wide world of sports, or add score updates from multiple games to a single Tweet. Sports columnists can share their latest column, and add additional links to related stories.

User-Generated Content

From sunset photos to Halloween costumes to first day of school photos, sharing user-generated content is still a fun way to make social media a two-way conversation. Feature up to 6 photos at once, and link to the full gallery on your website for additional traffic.

In the mood for something revolutionary on Social? How about this: Twitter just launched a brand new product concept that gives local news a creative way to tell stories.

It’s called ‘Carousels’ and even though Twitter is still testing it… Social News Desk is part of the Pilot Program so that means it’s live right now in SND Dashboard. And you can be first to get in on it by logging in now.

If your news org’s Twitter account has long been on Autopilot (that’s SND’s version of intelligent automation) – you’re in the majority. It’s an easy way to consistently get content posted regularly.

Enter ‘Carousels’ – ready-to-use organic carousel formats for organic tweets that enable to you change the way you push out news on Twitter. Here’s how:

  1. Customize the Format
  2. Deliver Better Stories
  3. Drive Calls to Action (note: Calls, plural)
Twitter Carousels: Multiple Videos, Pics and Links in One Place

If you’re already using SND Dashboard, it’s yours to try right now. Here’s why you should…

  • Improve Storytelling – deliver richer content that grabs attention on Twitter.
  • Multiple Media Types – Carousels allows image, video and article carousels. You can use all of it.
  • Interactive, Swipeable Cards – horizontal media swipes provide a format change.
  • Customized Destinations – add single or multiple destinations to diversify your message and URLs.

^^^ Pattern interrupt! That’s killer. It means you can send traffic more than one direction and tell a story with multiple elements.

Can you do all this through SND? YES! That’s why we’re doubly excited. Here’s a quick video to show you how it works…

Why Use Carousels?

  1. To Drive Engagement (stand out in the crowd, get attention, drive engagement)
  2. To Foster Immediate Action (the multiple calls-to-action has our head spinning in every direction)
  3. To Have More Flexibility (creative, customizable, but easy)

Coming Soon: The Data Will Be All Yours:

  • More Data Available to You: Analytics are a mix of Ads and Public API data.
  • More Granularity: You’ll get engagement metrics for each slide.
  • General Metrics: Track RTs and other engagement metrics just like regular, organic Tweets

We’ll keep you posted as ‘Twitter Carousels’ data becomes more available!

Newsrooms we’ve talked to see this as a huge opportunity to get content noticed, increase engagement and drive extra traffic. And by the way, if you’re having trouble figuring out how to post a Carousel natively on Twitter… that’s because it isn’t available there. So you can stop looking.

We can’t wait to start showing off creative Carousels courtesy of our clients. Tag @socialnewsdesk in the comments of yours and we’ll feature it!

Need inspiration? Here are 6 ways to use Twitter’s New ‘Carousels’ for organic tweets.

Most Instagram users have gotten used to the necessary (yet annoying) step of clicking your IG profile bio to get to the link for a post. It’s just life on Insta. But you don’t have to spend YOUR whole life uploading those links to your link in bio solution. SND just made it a whole lot simpler …

Meet Newsin.bio, a new way to streamline content publishing from Social News Desk to Instagram. Newsin.bio is built right into SND Dashboard and allows you to easily post to your Instagram feed AND to your Newsin.bio page AT THE SAME TIME! (**the crowd goes wild**)

Every Instagram account in SND is already set up with a unique Newsin.bio URL. You’ll find it in your Post Composer when you create a new post for Instagram.

And before you ask … this is included with your SND Dashboard license – so there’s NO EXTRA FEE for this. Which means you can stop paying for any other link in bio solutions you might currently be paying for (ahem).

Here’s how to get the most out of this exciting new feature…

STEP 1: Add Your Unique Newsin.bio Link to your Instagram Profile

Once you’ve found it in the Post Composer window, you’ll want to add your unique Newsin.bio URL to your Instagram profile’s bio section to start driving traffic to your website right away. It’s easy – just go to your Instagram profile and click Edit Profile, and enter the URL in the Website field.

NOTE: this is just an example… your link will be Newsin.bio/nameofyourprofile

STEP 2: Add Links to Previously Published Content

At first, your unique Newsin.bio page will be empty. But you can easily pull in previously published Instagram content so that all those posts show up on your Newsin.bio page too. Kind of like a library. The simplest way is to go to the SND Dashboard’s Post Manager and filter for posts made to your IG page. Next to each, click “Edit Tags & More” button where you can quickly add the story link. Doing so makes it show up on your unique Newsin.bio page, linked back to your website.

HINT: You can also do this from the Social Account Stream for your Instagram page.

STEP 3: Publish & Schedule Instagram Content

Now that you’re all set up, simply include your story link in the Newsin.bio field each time you post to Instagram from SND Dashboard. You’ll see a field for the story link right below where you add the image on the Post Composer. When it goes live on Instagram, it also goes live on your Newsin.bio page. SIMPLE!

Last but not least, make it a habit to include a line in your Instagram post text such as “Click the link in our bio to read the story” or “Click the Newsin.bio link in our profile to read more” – you get the idea.

But wait! There’s more … Newsin.bio will have analytics soon too! So stay tuned for that update.
